| LARIAM
Since January 1997, thousands of people have reported
significant Lariam side effects. These side effects
are often severe, lasting for months and sometimes years.
Of the people who mention the duration of Lariam side
effects, more than 20% report physical and/or psychological
symptoms lasting for two years or longer. The Lariam
label even states: " . . . these symptoms have
been reported to continue long after mefloquine has
been stopped" (Roche, July 2002).
Many people suffering with debilitating, long-term adverse
effects of Lariam have questions about the possibility
of litigation. Individual Lariam lawsuits have been
filed in several different states against Hoffman-LaRoche.
In July 2002, Hoffman-LaRoche
made highly significant changes to the Lariam label.
Roche now acknowledges that:
“Mefloquine may
cause psychiatric symptoms in a number of patients,
ranging from anxiety, paranoia and depression to hallucinations
and psychotic behavior. . . [T]hese symptoms have
been reported to continue long after Mefloquine has
been stopped. Rare cases of suicidal ideation and
suicide have been reported . . .. “
These changes may affect
your legal rights if you have suffered adverse side
effects from Lariam.
Drug litigation is a highly
specialized area of law. Only a limited number of lawyers
have adequate financial resources and personnel to fight
multi-national drug companies, such as Hoffman-LaRoche.
The circumstances of each injury requires individual
attention and scrutiny.
